The 7th Annual Golden Goggles Invitational Lecture

Golden Goggles Award

Middle Tennessee State University Student Affiliate Chapter of the American Chemical Society (MTSU SAACS) and the Nashville ACS Section presented Terry Collins with the 2002 Golden Goggles Award on April 16, 2002. Professor Collins’ lecture was entitled “Green Chemistry: Sustaining A High Technology Civilization.”

History of the Golden Goggles Lecture

The Golden Goggles theme has its origin in a demonstration competition that accompanied the 26th Southeastern Regional Meeting of Undergraduate Student Affiliates held at MTSU in March 1994. The first prize was a pair of goggles spray-painted gold. The Golden Goggles Invitational Lecture was first sponsored by the MTSU SAACS the following spring. The criteria for the invited lecturer, chosen and hosted by the students, was to be a chemist with a national reputation for cutting-edge science and proven excellence in addressing an audience composed largely of undergraduate students.
